Benefit plan details
Extended Health
Read about your coverage for prescription drugs, vision care, paramedical services (such as seeing a registered psychologist, massage therapist and other health-care providers), out-of-province medical care, and medical equipment and supplies.
Dental
Learn about your coverage for basic, preventive and major procedures, and the requirement for preauthorization for all orthodontic work and any dental services over $500.
Health Spending Account
Members of Faculty, CUPE 116, CUPE 2950, IUOE 115, Management & Professional, BCGEU Vancouver (Child Care), and BCGEU Okanagan employee groups can access a yearly credit for medical expenses not covered by Extended Health or Dental.
Personal Spending Account
Effective Jan.1, 2024, eligible CUPE 2950 and M&P employees will have access to this credit for a wide range of expenses, including fitness, education and personal development purchases.
BC Medical Services Plan (MSP)
All BC residents must enroll. Learn more about enrolling in MSP, including details for those employees moving to BC from out of the province or from outside Canada.
Employee and Family Assistance Program
Learn about the 24/7 counselling and support services available for faculty and staff.

Life Insurance
Learn about mandatory Basic Life Insurance, which will pay a sum of money to your designated beneficiary if you die, as well as Optional Life Insurance and Optional Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance that you can purchase for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children.
Long-Term Disability Plan
If you are unable to work due to an extended illness or injury, you may be eligible for long-term disability under UBC’s Income Replacement Plan/Disability Benefits Plan.
Vacation & Leaves
Learn about your vacation entitlement, as well as the many different paid and unpaid leaves you can take. This includes sick, maternity, parental and adoption leaves.
Benefits While Travelling
Your Extended Health Plan will cover many of your out-of-province emergency and non-emergency medical expenses. It’s a good idea to learn more about your coverage before you leave for a vacation or work-related trip.
Tuition Waiver
Learn about Tuition Waivers that can be used to cover the fees of eligible UBC courses.
Retirement & Survivor Benefits
When you leave your employment at UBC, you may be eligible for our Retirement & Survivor Benefit (RSB) Program, which offers coverage for Extended Health, Dental and the Employee and Family Assistance Program. If you die, your eligible dependent(s) can also enrol in this Program.
