Recognize your employees in a meaningful way for Employee Appreciation Day.

Employee Appreciation Day is coming up on Friday, March 6. This is a reminder to take time to recognize the people who help our workplace thrive every day.

While meaningful recognition should happen all year long, this day offers a special opportunity to celebrate and show genuine appreciation for your team and colleagues. Employee Appreciation Day is a chance to spark connection and reinforce a culture of recognition, support, and gratitude.

View some ideas below to help get you inspired.

Send a thoughtful thank‑you message

Take a moment to write a personalized note, handwritten or emailed, that acknowledges a specific contribution or accomplishment. A sincere message can leave a lasting impression.

Create a recognition board

Set up a physical or digital space for colleagues to acknowledge one another. This can be anonymous or named, and is a great way to highlight everyday wins.

Acknowledge when someone goes above and beyond

If you know a staff member who consistently excels, consider nominating them for UBC’s President's Awards for staff, which recognizes exceptional service and contributions across campuses. Nominations are open until April 10, 2026.

Support wellbeing

Show care for the whole person. Encourage use of available benefits and recommend health and wellbeing resources available at UBC.

Encourage professional development

Share workplace learning opportunities that are catered to employee interests or have a conversation with your staff to discuss their career goals. You can also remind staff to use their Professional Development (PD) funds and tuition waivers.

Celebrate milestones

Mark important achievements—work anniversaries, personal milestones, or special accomplishments. UBC recognizes long‑serving employees through programs such as the 25 Year Club.
