I am pleased to announce that after an internal and external search under policy AP15, Mike Vizsolyi has been appointed as Associate Vice-President, Human Resources (Labour Relations and HR Policy), effective January 16, 2026.
A UBC alumnus, Mike joined UBC in 2008 and has since held progressively senior roles. Over the past 18 years, he has worked closely with many colleagues across the University and successfully negotiated multiple collective agreements, strengthened relationships with bargaining agents, contributed to policy development, supported development of the recent voluntary retirement program, and played a key role in supporting UBC’s COVID-19 response. Most recently, Mike served as Executive Director, Employee and Labour Relations, leading a team managing staff-related employment litigation, collective bargaining, and union relationships.
As the new Associate Vice-President, Human Resources (Labour Relations and HR Policy), Mike will lead the university’s labour relations and HR policy-focused teams, including Employee Relations, Faculty Relations, the Investigations Office, Housing, Immigration and Relocation Services, and Conflict Management. He will also provide employment and labour relations advice to ensure all related services align with the university’s strategic priorities.
I would like to thank the search committee for their participation in this process:
- Gage Averill, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver
- James Olson, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Applied Science
- John Metras, Associate Vice-President, Facilities
- Michelle Berner, Managing Director, Total Rewards, Health and Wellbeing
- Kristin Cacchioni, Director, Faculty and Employee Relations, UBC Okanagan
- Linda Fischer, Executive Director, HR Advisory Partnerships
- Kiah Withnell, Secretary to the Committee
Please join me in congratulating Mike and welcoming him to this new role.
Adam Charania
Vice-President, Human Resources
