Learn more about our Workplace Wellbeing Ambassadors

Here is what current WWAs have to say about their experience.

We sat down and conducted interviews with two Workplace Wellbeing Ambassadors to find out a little more about the role of a WWA in their team. Meet Louise and Felicia!

Why did you decide to become a WWA?

I wanted to make a positive contribution to workplace wellbeing and help provide resources to employees. I also wanted to enhance my knowledge of what's available at UBC around wellbeing and promote that further. Being part of the program is a great benefit to the workplace and myself.

What has been your favourite part about being a WWA?

One of my favourite parts is being able to connect with other WWAs across campus. It’s really great to share ideas and hear what’s happening in other areas. I’m also fortunate to be one of two WWAs in the library.

Can you tell us one thing you have done as a part of your Ambassador role and how it benefited your department?

Felicia (my fellow WWA) and I have been fortunate to receive Move UBC and ParticipACTION funding this year which allowed us to host some Tai Chi and yoga classes (virtually). We also rolled out Not Myself Today and provided further mental health resources. We understand the connection between physical and mental health for overall positive wellbeing.

What advice do you have for people who are considering becoming a WWA?

Connect with colleagues in your area who are also interested in wellbeing. It’s great having those connections to share and bounce ideas off. Look into funding available at UBC to support initiatives, this could be funding from Healthy Workplace initiatives Program, Move UBC Grants, etc.

How do you Thrive? I enjoy walks in nature. We are so lucky to have lots of trails and parks to explore in BC. One of my favourite spots is Pacific Spirit right next to the campus in Vancouver. I also try to practice meditation and mindfulness.

Why did you decide to become a WWA?

I am passionate about learning, and I saw this as a chance to pass along health and wellbeing-related knowledge and resources to create an even more exceptional and inclusive workplace for colleagues. So, it was a great fit!

What has been your favourite part about being a WWA? Connecting with other like-minded colleagues at various departments at UBC.

What advice do you have for people who are considering becoming a WWA? This is a great opportunity to learn, build connections, and do something for your department.

How do you Thrive? I love to walk and really enjoy participating in health and wellbeing-related (team) challenges.
