Navigating the complex maze of health care with Teladoc

Finding the right health provider can be a challenge.

In the Summer 2022 edition of Benefits FYI, we have already shared some information about the self-serve Health Provider search through Lumino Health, but what if you need some more direction when navigating the complex maze of health care in B.C.? If you need expert guidance, try Teladoc. We are trialling this 100% confidential service for all members of UBC’s Extended Health Benefits plan until September 30, 2023. If you have a medical concern and you aren’t sure where to go next, you might find one of Teladoc’s services helpful. Here are a few examples.

Finding a doctor

This service was previously known as Best Doctors (indeed, you will find mentions of Best Doctors – along with the branding – on the Teladoc website, while they actively transition from Best Doctors to Teladoc) – finding the best doctor is at the heart of the service. When you contact Teladoc, they will work with you to learn about your current treatment plan and/or health concerns and help connect you to the right health professional and determine a path toward better health.

You can call them at 1-877-419-2378 to get started right away. Or you can also use Teladoc’s online search tool (you will need to create a profile first) to find the right doctor or specialist for your situation and your geographic location.

There are also other services available on Teladoc; once you contact Teladoc they will be able to find the right service for you.

Take a look at their offerings to find out more.

Mental health

One of the most helpful services we wanted to highlight is Teladoc’s Mental Health Navigator service, which can help you in two ways:

  1. Provide a thorough review of an existing mental health condition and treatment plan with recommendations for improvement and ongoing support
  2. Give guidance on how to navigate the mental health system with advice on treatment options for your best path forward

You can find more information and get assistance right away by reviewing the Mental Health Navigator page
