Temporary process for new employees to complete required training during WPL outage

Update: As of May 19, access to UBC’s Workplace Learning Ecosystem (WPL) and Canvas has been restored. New employees may either complete mandatory training through the WPL as usual, or continue to complete requirements via the UBC Blogs page, using the process outlined below.

As the recent cybersecurity incident affecting UBC’s Workplace Learning (WPL) is being addressed and systems are being restored, a temporary process is in place to ensure new employees can access and complete mandatory training requirements within the expected timelines.

Please note: Even if WPL service is restored, employees may continue using the temporary access process until further notice.

What employees and supervisors need to know

Access to the required training courses – six courses for all employees, and two additional courses for managers – is available through UBC Blogs at https://blogs.ubc.ca/ubcgrc/ (CWL required). Employees are expected to save and submit proof of completion via Qualtrics. Details are available through the same link.

Supervisors remain responsible for ensuring onboarding training requirements are met and should continue to monitor progress and support their new hires.

What you need to know

New employees with start dates between April 20 and May 22, 2026, across both campuses, as well as their supervisors, were notified on Thursday, May 14.

Please:

  • Share this update with teams involved in local onboarding and employee support

  • Remind employees to submit proof of completion and retain it for their records and supervisor review

Access to non-mandatory training, courses, and event registrations typically available through WPL is also temporarily unavailable, and our teams are working on solutions.

We recognize the disruption this incident has caused and we appreciate our community’s continued patience.
