CUPE 2278 and the University started bargaining on September 22, 2025. The parties have engaged constructively and respectfully and have identified areas of mutual interest. There is a fundamental difference in interpretation between the Union and UBC about the scope of the bargaining unit that both parties have asked the Labour Relations Board for assistance in resolving. Bargaining on unrelated issues continues, and with the assistance of the Board, UBC is hopeful of concluding this round of collective bargaining once the interpretation issue is resolved.
