Today we re-launched the required training, Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace for Managers & Supervisors with improvements to the navigation and new accessibility options.
UBC employees with managerial or supervisory responsibilities (including those who manage student staff) are asked to complete this important required training.
The training was created and updated by the Workplace Wellbeing team, and designed in partnership with the Learning and Talent Development team in Central HR. Initially launched in January of 2023, Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace for Managers & Supervisors was created to equip and empower managers and supervisors to support workplace mental health.
The planned improvements were based on feedback from the managers and supervisors who have completed the training so far, with a focus on enhancements to navigation and updating content. The accessibility improvements were made in consultation with the Centre for Workplace Accessibility, which includes American Sign Language interpretation for the videos, as well as an improved ‘focus order’ capability for screen readers.
Next steps
For anyone at UBC with managerial or supervisory responsibilities (including those who manage student staff) who has not taken the training, we welcome you to enrol in the updated course.
If you are one of the 2800+ leaders who have completed the training, you do not need to take action. However, you are welcome to review the training again.
Finally, everyone at UBC can be a leader by the way they show up and interact with one another in the workplace. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to complete the training if they are interested in better understanding mental health literacy in a workplace context.
If you have questions about this course or other wellbeing training opportunities at UBC, please email erica.altomare@ubc.ca.
