Changes in life and relationships can happen in the blink of an eye.
With this in mind, it is important to notify the university and update personal information such as your designated beneficiaries. In the event of a claim, you want the benefit to be paid to the correct individual or organization.
A beneficiary is the person, persons, or entity you name on a life insurance policy to receive the proceeds of the life insurance policy in the event of your death. If you don’t designate a beneficiary, your life insurance will be paid to your estate. This initiates the probate process for administering your estate which can be lengthy and costly.
To view your current life insurance beneficiary(ies):
- Login to Workday and from your dashboard navigate to the Benefits section.
- Click on the My Beneficiaries tab above the benefits summary to see the names of beneficiaries, which policy (if more than one), and the percentages assigned.
- If you need to update this information, please refer to the following instructions.
To update your life insurance beneficiary(ies):
- Please follow the Workday job aid How do I change beneficiaries?
- If you require assistance with a Workday issue or inquiry, please contact the Integrated Service Centre (ISC) for support.
It is also important to keep your beneficiary information up-to-date for your UBC pension benefits. You can follow the above job aid to update your Staff Pension Plan beneficiary.
