Learn about the 2024 UBC Workplace Experiences Survey summary of findings and steps for moving forward.
UBC’s Workplace Experiences Survey (WES) took place from November 4 to 26, 2024. Over 9,000 faculty and staff members participated in WES, sharing feedback on their experiences of working at UBC. We are pleased to share that UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan both achieved a 50% response rate, which was 13% higher than the previous WES survey in 2021. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts, which is a crucial step in shaping strategic priorities at the university.
Summary of findings
The 2024 survey results show that UBC’s top strengths for engaging faculty and staff include:
- supporting professional growth
- inclusion and respect
- championing innovation
Employees identified opportunities for improved engagement in areas including:
- better understanding of the vision and priorities from leaders
- increased communications
- enhanced supports for faculty
Next steps
Over the next couple of weeks, senior HR leaders will share portfolio and unit-level reports for all units with five or more survey respondents. These reports will provide localized results for use as teams develop their action plans to improve engagement in their areas.
