A lot has changed in our eating habits over the past year. With all the extra time spent at home, we increasingly reach for processed foods and sweets for a quick, convenient snack. Many of us have also missed out on the joys of eating as a social activity, whether it’s going to your favourite restaurant with a group of friends or preparing a feast for your extended family, instead turning to take-out or prepared meals.
Healthy eating can be difficult to maintain in challenging times, but studies have shown that being mindful of your eating habits and maintaining a nutritious diet can improve your mental health, reducing anxiety and depression. Here are a few things you can do to practice eating well.
- Visit UBC Farm’s Farmers’ Market to pick up healthier snacks and ingredients
- Plan to cook a recipe from the UBCO Cookbook with a friend (virtually or in person)
- Follow the Food at UBC Nutrition blog for helpful tips and recipes for better eating
- Learn more about your hunger cues and take time to eat healthy meals and snacks, “electronic free”
