October is Healthy Workplace Month, a time to highlight the importance of practicing workplace habits that promote a healthy mind, body, and organizational culture.
As part of our ongoing dedication to promoting a healthy workplace at UBC, we are thrilled to celebrate the successful conclusion of the third year of our Workplace Wellbeing Ambassador program. This initiative is designed for faculty and staff who passionately champion health and wellbeing across our campuses.
In this past year, we were fortunate to have 50 Ambassadors participate in the program, actively engaging in hosting events and promoting our health and wellbeing initiatives. Their efforts not only helped spread awareness about various health-centric programs but also supported their own personal wellbeing journey.
Award-winning WWAs
In 2023, the theme for Healthy Workplace Month is “Celebrate your Workplace Culture”. What better way to celebrate last year’s WWAs, than to acknowledge the Faculty of Medicine’s Michelle Man! Her colleagues nominated her for the President’s Staff Award, and she was recently announced as the recipient in the Wellbeing category!
Michelle joins last year’s President’s Staff Award winner, Felicia de la Parra, as yet another (and probably not the last) President’s Staff Award recipient from our WWA program!
Who are the WWAs?
If you are keen to learn if there is a WWA in your department/unit, please take a look at the current lists at each campus.
What is it like to be a WWA? Find out firsthand, by reading these profiles for some of our amazing Workplace Wellbeing Ambassadors.
Keen to become a WWA?
And if you are interested in becoming a WWA... well we just welcomed a new cohort to UBC Vancouver, so applications are closed. But the UBC Okanagan WWA program will open up again in January!
In the meantime, if you would like to register your interest in becoming a future WWA, please reach out to the WWA program lead – Truelove Twumasi-Afriyie – and we hope to see you in the next WWA cohort!
