On Jan. 1, 2020, new services were added to the extended health plans of active UBC employees.
The changes include:
- Those diagnosed with type 1 diabetes can now access Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) receivers, transmitters or sensors through the plan. The coverage available is a combined maximum of $4,000 per calendar year per person. A doctor’s note confirming the diagnosis is required.
- M&P and IUOE 115 now may benefit from eye exams, which were added to the already existing vision care coverage in their extended health plans.
With this latest addition, now all UBC employee groups have access to reimbursement of “reasonable and customary” charges for eye exams, which are subject to the reimbursement level and maximum amounts specified under each employee group’s extended health plan.
For more information on vision care coverage and CGM, see the Sun Life Group Benefit booklet.
For information on what is considered a reasonable and customary charge, please contact Sun Life at 1-800-361-6212. You will need to provide the UBC group number (025205) and your member ID (7-digit UBC employee number).
