This year, Employee Appreciation Day falls on Friday, March 1. And while you should recognize your staff regularly throughout the year, this special occasion is a great reminder to celebrate with your team and show them you care.
Here are some ways you can express your appreciation for your staff:
- Send a thank you note. There's nothing quite like a personalized message to express gratitude. Try it yourself! Write a card or send an email saying thank you for something specific your team member has done that you have appreciation for.
- Recognize when someone goes above and beyond. A little recognition goes a long way, and receiving acknowledgment for your efforts can feel very rewarding. Do you know someone who excels in their role? Consider nominating them for the President's Awards for staff.
- Care for their wellbeing. Show a team member that you care for their whole wellbeing — encourage them to use their benefits and recommend health and wellbeing resources available at UBC.
- Support their professional development. Staff appreciate when managers and leaders are invested in and supportive of their career growth and development. Share workplace learning opportunities that are catered to their interests or have a conversation with them to discuss their professional development goals. You can also remind them to use their Professional Development (PD) funds annually!
- Celebrate milestones. Did someone on your team accomplish a personal achievement? Has someone just had a work anniversary? Take the time to celebrate with them and say congratulations. UBC also recognizes staff with continuous service awards, such as the 25 Year Club.
Take the time today to show appreciation for your teams and create an ongoing culture of recognition and support.
