With an estimated 5,400 attendees, your presence helped make this year’s event a vibrant celebration of our campus community and a wonderful way to kick off the academic year.
Thank you to all the staff and faculty who joined us at the 2025 UBC Staff & Faculty BBQ!
I’d like to extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
Thank you to the UBC Food Services team, who provided a delicious lunch with minimal wait times, and a focus on minimizing food waste. The team redistributed all usable leftovers to the three residence dining halls. While leftover food from the buffet table could not be donated due to legal requirements, it was composted in alignment with our Zero Waste Action Plan. The Food Services team carefully managed food quantities toward the end of the event to reduce waste while ensuring that everyone was served. The waste diversion results were 99.9%.
Thank you also to the community partners who hosted engaging tables on several topics of interest to staff and faculty, and to the Protocols, Ceremonies & Events team, whose coordination and planning were essential in bringing the event to life. We appreciate the behind-the-scenes contributions of Campus Security, Facilities, Campus & Community Planning, Human Resources and the Centre for Workplace Accessibility.
We remain committed to continuous improvement in making this event more accessible. Each year, we work to improve physical access, dietary options, and inclusive considerations so that everyone can fully participate and feel welcome.
Thank you again for being part of this success. We look forward to celebrating with you again soon.
Warm regards,
Adam Charania
Vice-President, Human Resources
