New Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) Job Profiles

Two new GAA Job Profiles are now available in Workday for GAAs who work at locations outside Vancouver. Existing GAA Job Profiles will be re-labelled.

Two new Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) Job Profiles are now available in Workday for GAAs who work at locations outside of Vancouver.

For UBC administrators outside of Vancouver

The two new Job Profiles are:

  • Student Hourly – Graduate Academic Assistant (Non-Union)
  • Student Salaried – Graduate Academic Assistant (Non-Union)

Administrators who process GAA appointments will need to ensure that GAAs who will work at locations outside of Vancouver, such as the Okanagan or other sites, are appointed using one of the two new Job Profiles moving forward.

Previous GAA positions, and unoccupied GAA positions, that are located outside of Vancouver were moved to one of the two new Job Profiles by the Integrated Service Centre (ISC) on October 30.

For UBC Vancouver administrators

Existing GAA Job Profiles will be relabelled as:

  • CUPE 2278 Hourly – Graduate Academic Assistant
  • CUPE 2278 Salaried – Graduate Academic Assistant

The existing GAA Job Profiles will be relocated under a new CUPE 2278 GAA Job Family.

GAAs working from the UBC Vancouver Campus, as well as GAAs working from Vancouver hospital sites, will continue to be hired using the 2278 GAA Job Profiles.

Worker location in Workday

Additionally, administrators will need to ensure that the correct location (site) is being selected for a GAA position. Please review the location information project for guidance on ensuring location information is correct for worker positions in Workday.

Why this is important

Ensuring that the correct GAA Job Profile is used, as well as ensuring that the correct location is selected in GAA positions, will ensure that employment agreement language generated by Workday is correct.

For instructions on how to create a GAA position, see Create Position: Student Employment and GRAs (CWL required) in the Workday Knowledge Base.
