As of April 1, 2018, CUPE 2278 (English Language Instructors – ELI) merged with the Executive Administrative, Farm Workers, and Non-Union Technicians & Research Assistants staff employee groups, for extended health and dental coverage purposes.
The addition of CUPE 2278 ELI has led to a name change for the Non-Union Employee Group, which is now referred to as Other Groups – Non-Union & CUPE 2278 (ELI).
Also effective April 1, 2018, prescription sunglasses and laser eye correction surgery are now part of the vision care benefit for Other Groups – Non-Union & CUPE 2278 (ELI). This is in addition to coverage for contact lenses or eyeglasses prescribed by a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist and eye exams performed by a licensed and registered optometrist or ophthalmologist. A maximum amount of $400, less the amount of any vision care benefits paid during the previous 24 months, is eligible to be claimed.
Please note that prescription sunglasses and laser eye correction surgery will need to have a service date on or after April 1, 2018, in order to be eligible for reimbursement.
To learn more about the extended health and dental coverage for the Other Non-Union & CUPE 2278 (ELI) staff employee group, please refer to the Sun Life Group Benefits Booklet.
