Updated guides and checklists for positive onboarding experiences

Create a positive and personalized onboarding experience for your new hires with our updated Manager’s Onboarding Guide and New Hire Onboarding Checklist.

September is a busy time of year—not only with the start of a new school year, but it’s also a high-volume hiring season. To make sure incoming new hires have a positive onboarding experience, we have some updated resources to support local onboarding in each department or unit.

Our updated Manager’s Onboarding Guide and New Hire Onboarding Checklist are a great starting point for hiring managers to create a comprehensive and customized onboarding program for new employees joining the team.

What’s new about these updated checklists?

  • Updated functionality and user experience such as an interactive table of contents, clickable checkboxes, and document sections based on onboarding timelines

  • Additional information based on new hire feedback and best practices shared by distributed HR professionals across the UBC community

Managers can first review the Manager’s Onboarding Guide to design their local onboarding plan and use it as a reference guide for your interactions with your new hire.

As you review the Manager's Onboarding Guide, it is recommended that you review and customize this New Hire Onboarding Checklist to meet local needs and provide to your new hire on or prior to their first day. You can add onboarding items specific to your new hire's job or unit as a supplemental document or email that can be sent in addition to this general checklist.
