New allowance plan in Workday for temporary additional responsibilities for non-unionized staff.
A new allowance plan is now available in Workday for non-unionized staff employees’ temporary additional responsibilities pay. This allowance plan is distinct from employees’ regular salary/hourly plans. This change is applicable for HR administrators who process HR transactions for non-unionized staff.
This change does not affect faculty, unionized staff or student employees. There is no change to how ongoing additional responsibilities (i.e. no end dates) are processed.
What has changed?
The process for entering additional responsibilities of a temporary duration into Workday has changed.
HR administrators and hiring managers can now process temporary additional responsibilities using one of the new allowance plans:
- Temporary Additional Responsibilities (hourly)
- Temporary Additional Responsibilities (salaried)
Choose the plan based on the position’s hourly/salaried status and enter the additional responsibilities pay as dollars per hour or per month, as appropriate. The Actual End Date field will be required, which will automatically remove the additional responsibilities at the end of the period.
Please see Add Allowance Plan in the Workday Knowledge Base (CWL required) for guidance on how to add an allowance plan.
What has not changed?
- Continue using the Request Compensation Change process for both temporary or additional responsibilities, with the Additional Responsibilities reason. Please see Request Compensation Change in the Workday Knowledge Base (CWL required) for guidance on the Workday process.
- Approval routing remains the same.
- Any General Wage Increase (GWI) will be applied during the GWI implementation process.
- Ongoing additional responsibilities continue to be added onto employees’ salary or hourly plan.
