Hybrid work at UBC

Creating a flexible workplace environment supports a range of UBC’s institutional goals, including the attraction and retention of faculty and staff, as well as our commitments to inclusion, wellbeing, and climate action.

In June 2022, UBC formally adopted a hybrid work program. At the centre of the hybrid work program is the need to preserve the student experience, advance the academic mission, support research excellence and impact, and maintain the high quality of our programs.

The hybrid work program is available for all eligible staff. Staff and leaders need to understand the program objectives and principles, as well as the mental health support and learning resources available, prior to proceeding with the program. All staff who participate in the program must have a Hybrid Work Agreement in place in Workday.

Learning resources

A number of online resources to support faculty and staff leaders and employees working in hybrid contexts are available. In addition, we have two subscription-based learning and development newsletters.

NOTE: The Leader's Edge and Learning Link newsletters are temporarily on hold as we look at engaging with audiences and refreshing the content in order to better serve the needs of our audience. We hope to resume sending these two newsletters in late fall of 2024. In the meantime, you can still subscribe to receive either of the below newsletters later this year.

  • Leader's Edge: A newsletter for leaders that features fresh content related to hybrid work and leading and learning at UBC, including articles, tips, and information about upcoming professional development and leadership development opportunities. Subscribe to Leader's Edge.
  • Learning Link: A monthly newsletter for faculty and staff that features content pertinent to working and learning at UBC, including tips for effective hybrid work, articles, resources, and information about upcoming professional development opportunities. Subscribe to Learning Link
