As we limber up for the Move UBC campaign in February, we are focused on physical activity this month at UBC, but it's not just Move UBC that will get you moving; there are lots of activities happening around UBC.
We know from the literature that small changes and incremental changes to your physical activity can have many positive outcomes on your overall wellbeing. So, check out some of the exciting activities happening over the next few weeks to get you moving more.
- Wellbeing Walks (In-person): This year we will be offering themed Wellbeing Walks twice a month on Wednesdays, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Examples of some of the walks we will be offering this semester include a puppy walk, Beaty Biodiversity Museum tour, and a tour of the Nitobe Garden. Walks are free and open to everyone.
- UBC Okanagan — Healthy Measures Assessments: Faculty and Staff at UBCO have the opportunity to participate in a variety of physical evaluations by UBCO Health Sciences and Exercise students under the supervision of faculty instructors. These assessments take place on Thursday, February 23, 2023 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Upper Campus Health building.
- Movement Breaks (In-person or Online): The Move U Crew will be offering 5–10-minute movement breaks both in person and online. Movement breaks are a great way to break up your meeting/class and provide a healthy brain break.
- You can request movement breaks for free through the Move U Crew webpages (UBCV | UBCO) UBC Okanagan Pickleball (In-person): Join Staff & Faculty pickleball with Recreation in the gymnasium for free on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. throughout January.
- Lunch + Lift (Online): Lunch & Lift is a series of free 2-in-1 interactive wellbeing workshops consisting of a 30-minute movement class, followed by a 30-minute interactive wellbeing session facilitated by a UBC wellbeing professional. This semester’s Lunch + Lift wellbeing sessions will include the following topics:
- Recovery & Rehabilitation: Wednesday, February 15
