Travelling Health Fair 2024: Heart Health

The UBC Travelling Health Fair is back for its 10th year at UBC Vancouver, and registration is now open for sessions starting on February 20 through to February 28.

For people at UBC to teach, learn and work well, they need to be well. That is why the Health, Wellbeing & Benefits team is excited to join forces with the UBC Pharmacy clinic to focus on heart health at this year’s Travelling Health Fair: a throwback to our very first THF in 2014 when we also looked at heart health!

Cardiovascular disease is a term used to describe a variety of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels. It is a chronic disease that can lead to heart attack or stroke and is one of the leading causes of death in Canada. Nine in ten Canadians have at least one risk factor for heart disease and stroke. The good news is that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented through healthy behaviours.

Prevention starts with knowing your risk, and the 2024 UBC Travelling Health Fair is dedicated to helping you learn about your cardiovascular disease risk and provide information to keep your risk as low as possible.

What is the Travelling Health Fair?

The UBC Travelling Health Fair is an annual, mobile health clinic offering free, one-on-one health assessments. The 2024 Travelling Health Fair will take a comprehensive cardiovascular disease prevention approach to the health and wellbeing of UBC faculty, staff and postdoctoral fellows. As part of this health fair, you will receive the following confidential services:

  • Measurement of height, weight, waist circumference, and blood pressure
  • Cholesterol level measurement (a small finger prick)
  • Education about cardiovascular risk factors
  • Calculation of cardiovascular disease risk (Framingham score)
  • Interpretation of results and an individualized action plan to optimize your cardiovascular health.
