The following message was sent by Adam Charania, Associate Vice President, Human Resources & Faculty Relations.
After an extended period in an interim role, I’m pleased to announce that Mike Vizsolyi is the successful candidate for the permanent role of Executive Director, Employee and Labour Relations, effective September 16, reporting to myself.
In this role, Mike will support the strategic direction for employee and labour relations, including overseeing and negotiating staff collective agreements that meet the needs of our employees and the University, building ER and LR capacity through education tailored for our distributed HR teams and leaders, supporting the University in delivering on our mandates, key strategic plans, and policies, and continuing to build on our positive relationships with our staff Unions, Associations, and our internal and external stakeholders.
Mike provides expertise and leadership to senior leaders across the university, including myself, on a range of complex and multi-faceted issues. He manages a team of highly-skilled professionals and experts in the areas of employment and labour law; together, they ensure effective stewardship of people in the staff employment context.
Mike is a UBC alumni, and no stranger to the university. In 2008, he returned to the university as an Employee Relations Manager bringing his experience in operations management, labour relations, and HR. In 2020, Mike stepped into the Interim Executive Director, Employee and Labour Relations role and became a key contributor from HR to support the university’s COVID response. Over the past 14 years, Mike has led bargaining with multiple unions through several rounds, invested successfully in developing relationships with our bargaining agents, and participated in formal policy development.
We are very appreciative of Mike’s leadership and contributions to the university and we look forward to continuing to work closely together. Please share with your teams as appropriate.
Congratulations, Mike!
