Offboarding for managers
What managers need to know when a member of their team is leaving.
Faculty and staff leave UBC for a variety of reasons – whether it is a career change, retirement, relocation or other circumstances. Regardless of the reason for leaving, a thoughtful and consistent offboarding process is essential to ensure a smooth transition for both the departing member and the team they leave behind.
The ‘Manager’s Offboarding Guide’ is designed to provide managers and supervisors with clear procedures to follow to ensure all outstanding matters and offboarding tasks are resolved prior to your team member’s departure from UBC. This guide provides information on what to do prior to your staff member’s departure, on their last day, and after their departure. It is formatted as a checklist so that you can keep careful track of all the tasks to be done.
Note that there may be additional offboarding processes or tasks specific to your team member based on their role, department, unit, or specific work arrangements. Please take that into consideration and adjust or customize your offboarding tasks, as appropriate.
