The full number of credits taught equalling full-time is different per Faculty and is broken down as follows:

July 1, 2022:

• 6 credits F/T per term: Architecture, Law
• 9 credits F/T per term: Arts, Science, Medicine, Arts & Social Sciences, Creative & Critical Studies, Health & Social Development
• 12 credits F/T per term: Land and Food, Sauder, Forestry, Management
• 15 credits F/T per term: Applied Science, Education

July 1, 2023:

• 9 credits F/T per term: Arts, Science, Medicine, Arts & Social Sciences, Creative & Critical Studies, Health & Social Development, Architecture, Law
• 12 credits F/T per term: Land and Food, Sauder, Forestry, Management, Applied Science, Education

Minimum per-credit rates are in effect for all Sessional Lecturer appointments, per Part 2, Article 4 of the Collective Agreement:

Positions must be advertised in accordance with UBC’s advertising policy and the Collective Agreement. Sessional appointments must be entered in the ISI (Integrated Sessional Information) System to record & track the number of credits taught, and then subsequently in Workday. If the appointee is a not a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, please review the requirements for Foreign Academic Recruitment. Please note that normally the only non-Canadians that can be appointed as part-time Sessional Lecturers are American, Mexican and Chilean citizens.  Additionally a foreign graduate student whose valid study permit allows them to work at UBC and has been offered an appointment may also hold a Sessional Lecturer appointment.

Sessional Lecturers who hold appointments of at least 50% and for at least 4 months are eligible for pension and benefits. Sessional Lecturers who hold appointments of less than 50% are eligible for a modified benefits package with no pension. The only exception is when a Sessional Lecturer falls under the recall provisions of by Part 7, Article 4 of the Collective Agreement.  Information about benefits eligibility is available on the HR Benefits including information on benefits maintenance between appointments for Sessional Lecturers.
