Prevent student employee pay delays

As part of UBC’s commitment to supporting student employees on campus, managers and supervisors can find resources to encourage timely hiring of student employees.

Supervisors and hiring managers have a range of responsibilities when employing students, and that includes an obligation related to payment. Ensuring students get hired and subsequently paid on time is an important part of the overall student employee experience at UBC.

Included in supervisory responsibilities are:

  • ensuring timely hiring and information entry into Workday for student employees – ideally two weeks prior to the start date; and
  • ensuring student employees are paid on time, including appropriate collection of supporting materials such as departmental timesheets.

For more information, please refer to the following UBC Payroll deadlines, as well as the Employment Standards Act requirements.
