A big thank you to our Thrive Partners.
As we wrap up another inspiring Thrive Month at UBC, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our Thrive partners. With community support, we’ve inspired meaningful conversations, fostered connections, and empowered our students, faculty, and staff to explore their own paths to mental health. Thank you for your energy, collaboration, and for creating a Thriving community!
With over 80 partners at UBCV and 48 at UBCO, the energy and passion have made an incredible impact on this year’s Thrive campaign. Whether through workshops, events, or thoughtful conversations, this year’s contributions have helped foster a Thriving community.
Highlights from Thrive Month
Here are just a few examples of the many thoughtful and engaging events our partners put on across both campuses.
UBC Vancouver Thrive events
UBC Library
UBC Library embraced gratitude this Thrive Month by encouraging Department Heads and Managers to create Gratitude Walls in their areas. So far, five Gratitude Walls have been set up across the library system, featuring messages of appreciation and positivity. To support these efforts, our Thrive partners created Thrive swag packs—including tea and other goodies—for participants to pick up. The initiative was complemented by an email from the HR director, sharing posters and resources to encourage participation among library teams.
UBC Student Housing and Community Services – Walter Gage South Tower Residence Advisors
The Thrive & Revive: Gage Wellness Fair, organized by six residence advisors from Walter Gage Residence, brought students together through interactive stations representing the Thrive 5 :
Move More: Jump rope and hula hoop challenges got attendees active and energized.
Eat Well: Participants learned about nutrition and crafted their own recipes.
Sleep Well: Attendees created personalized sleep schedules and learned healthy sleep habits.
Say Hi: A community mural encouraged attendees to share their languages and cultures.
Give Back: Participants made thank-you cards and posters to show appreciation for others.
Points earned at these stations could be traded for self-care items like tea packets, under-eye masks, stress balls, and more. Campus partners such as SVPRO, the Wellness Centre, Move UBC, and AMS SASC also provided valuable resources to attendees.
UBC Okanagan Thrive events
Interdisciplinary Co-op Program
The Interdisciplinary Co-op Program’s hosted "Write to Thrive: Journaling for Mental Health." Amazing conversations with the UBC Community about how journaling can enhance emotional regulation and reduce anxiety were facilitated.
Participants engaged in guided journaling exercises and contributed to our community sharing a wall, creating an inspiring atmosphere of support and reflection. A total of 176 free journals were distributed, and it was wonderful to witness the positive energy and insights shared. This event truly demonstrated the power of community in promoting mental health literacy and fostering connections.
Ubuntu Gathering: Black Faculty & Staff Community Network - Academic and Career Advising & Black Student Success
This gathering offered an intentional space to connect, foster community, and build ongoing relationships with colleagues across campus, to strengthen support resources, and collective experience for Black faculty and staff.
Thank you
Again, we want to thank our Thrive partners for pouring their time, effort, and enthusiasm into the 2024 Thrive Month initiatives. Let’s continue building a thriving community throughout the year.
