Workplaces, filled with opportunities for productivity and personal and professional development, play an essential part in maintaining positive wellbeing among employees.
At the same time, they can be stressful environments, and this year in particular we have all been stretched in many ways. Our Health and Wellbeing team recognizes that there are various interconnected dimensions that have an impact on wellbeing and a healthy workplace. These include: mental, physical, professional and social aspects.
As part of our effort to offer support in maintaining a healthy workplace, we are very excited to announce the launch of the Workplace Wellbeing Ambassadors program. This pilot program, with a cohort of over 55 ambassadors spread across the university, plays a key strategic role at UBC. The Ambassadors support the Human Resources – Health, Wellbeing, & Benefits team in the effort to embed wellbeing and wellbeing practices within UBC workplaces.
You, too, can make a difference in creating and sustaining a healthy workplace that is resilient by supporting those around you and also focusing on your wellbeing. Here are some ideas, and resources for workplace activities you can begin at any time:
Build Awareness
Enroll in the Wellbeing in the workplace workshop to learn tools and skills to support wellbeing while working within changing environments (remote work, work from home, virtual work etc.). Find out about a variety UBC resources and services that support individual and workplace wellbeing.
Take Action
Connect with your Workplace Wellbeing Ambassador
Register for Not Myself today: The Not Myself Today initiative through the Canadian Mental Health Association aims to help employees have open conversations about mental health so no one has to feel alone.
Walking meetings: If the weather permits and observing physical distancing, consider a walking meeting with your colleagues.
Move U crew: Request a free guided 5-15 minutes movement break from the MoveU crew during meetings.
