Cost and policies
UBC employees can access up to six coaching sessions per coaching engagement/contract at no cost. UBC Coaches commit to partnering with a limited number of UBC staff and faculty clients per year. If you wish to access more than six hours of coaching within 12 months with a UBC Coach, you may be able to do so on a fee-for-service basis subject to an external coach's private rates and availability.
UBC Coaches
UBC Coaches come from diverse professional backgrounds, have widely varying subject matter expertise, and are connected to the life of the University. All UBC Coaches hold professional coaching certifications, and are thoroughly screened, onboarded, and oriented to ensure quality assurance and fit with organizational priorities.
You can choose to work with either an internal or an external coach. UBC Internal Coaches are current UBC employees who offer professional coaching in addition to their employment at UBC. External Coaches do not work at UBC, but may previously worked at UBC, or are professionally connected to the organization. They offer professional coaching to UBC staff and faculty in addition to other employment or their private coaching practice.
About the sessions
All UBC Coaches offer an initial 20-30 min “discovery session” as an opportunity for you to get to know each other, scope your coaching topic, discuss logistics of the coaching engagement and to answer any questions you have about coaching. During your coaching sessions, you and your coach will partner in inquiry-based conversations to surface new awareness, explore possibilities and co-design action and accountability plans as you work towards your coaching goals.
A key component of your engagement will be taking action towards your goals. You will typically commit to taking these actions in between your coaching sessions and one of your coach’s roles is to help to hold you accountable to your commitments. Doing your best to take action based on your commitments will set you up for success throughout your coaching engagement.
All UBC Coaches are certified professionals and commit to the UBC Coaching Services Terms of Affiliation and the International Coaching Federation's Code of Ethics. Client confidentiality is essential.
