Thrive is UBC’s annual mental health literacy campaign that offers students, faculty, and staff at UBC opportunities to explore pathways to mental health and find strategies that will help them learn to thrive.

Thrive Grants of up to $300 are available for students, faculty and staff at UBC who have a great idea to host an event and promote mental health, such as:

  • Promoting mental health literacy (e.g. educational seminar or workshop)
  • Provide opportunities for social connection
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive community
  • Build skills to support positive mental health and resilience
  • Highlight resources on campus
  • Advocate for positive mental health and reduce stigma
  • Additional consideration will be given to events and activities that support diverse perspectives on mental health.

Take a look at some previous grant recipients for some inspiration.

Along with the grants, we are calling on the campus community to join us as a partner to get support for your Thrive event and to help spread the word and help our UBC community understand the importance of mental health.

Why does UBC run this Thrive campaign?

The Thrive campaign – now in its 15th year – is our chance to focus on mental health at UBC.

Mental health is our capacity to feel, think, and act in ways that enhance our ability to enjoy life and deal with the challenges we face. Mental health exists on a continuum—it can change day to day and hour to hour and is impacted by many different factors, including things such as sleep, nutrition and stress. Supporting the mental health of students, faculty, and staff is a year-round priority for UBC and has been identified as one of six priority areas for action in the Wellbeing Strategic Framework. UBC recognizes the crucial role that mental health plays in one’s ability to live, work, and learn well on our campuses, and Thrive is just one of many ways the University is committed to fostering mental health.

If you have any questions, comments or feedback relating to Thrive, please contact UBC Vancouver:  thrive.vancouver@ubc.ca; UBC Okanagan: thrive.okanagan@ubc.ca
