Onboarding new staff? Updated guides and checklists to help with local onboarding

Just in time for the start of a new school year, we have some updated resources to support local onboarding. Everything can be found on the New employee checklist and orientation page, which features these two, updated documents:

  • The Manager’s Onboarding Guide is designed to be a starting point for your local onboarding plan and help guide your interactions with your new hire during their first weeks.
  • Additionally, managers are encouraged to review and customize the New Hire Onboarding Checklist template. What is most relevant to your new hire may be based on their role, team, department/unit, work arrangement, etc.
  • NEW! This guide now includes a Benefits Enrolment Guide, which was developed based on feedback from new hires. It includes helpful links and answers to the most common benefits enrolment questions for this complex process.

To support new hires who may be searching for information online, there is also a generic onboarding checklist on the Your First Days page. We recommend managers still create a customized onboarding checklist using the template above.

Please share this with your departments and units to support local onboarding.

We welcome any feedback or recommendations you have to improve these resources at workplace.orientations@ubc.ca.
