Term faculty appointments

Members of the Faculty Association and eligible for negotiated salary increases.

Full-time appointments one-year appointment are eligible for pension and benefits. Part-time appointments may be eligible for pension and benefits depending on length of appointment and FTE.  All appointments are eligible for statutory benefits (Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance and WorkSafe BC).

Positions must be advertised in accordance with UBC’s advertising policy. 

The Dean's Office must indicate the reason for the faculty appointment:

• to replace a faculty member on leave
• to enable a department or faculty to meet teaching requirements in the face of exceptional uncertainties about future enrolment
• when the death or late resignation of a faculty member makes it impractical to conduct an effective search for the best qualified candidate for appointment
• when a suitable candidate is not available to fill a vacancy normally held by a faculty member holding an appointment with review or without term, or
• when the funds for a program are to be provided only for a limited time.
