The Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is a confidential and voluntary counselling support service that provides you and your family with the help you need to resolve a wide range of personal, work, health or life issues.
Expert information and immediate support resources are available in-person and by phone, video, web or mobile app. The EFAP provides short-term clinical counselling and work-life consultations to all eligible UBC employees and their dependent family members at no cost to users. The program is also available to UBC retirees and eligible surviving families of UBC employees who enrol through the Retirement & Survivor Benefits Program.
To access the enhanced wellbeing offering through the TELUS Health One wellbeing platform, eligible faculty and staff will need to use a Campus-Wide Login (CWL).
- Go to the UBC TELUS Health One login page: one.telushealth.com
- Log in with the Company Code: ubc
- You will then be redirected to a CWL page. Enter your login name, password, and multi-factor authentication as you normally would
- You will now be on the TELUS Health One home page and you can start exploring all the new resources, tools, and content.

Professional counselling services
TELUS Health is available 24 hours, seven days a week, at 1-866-424-0770. After phoning the toll-free confidential number, you will be connected to an Intake Counsellor who will collect information about the issue(s) you are facing and schedule services based on any requirements you may have (for example, if you would like an in-person appointment with a female counsellor in Burnaby on a weekend). Counsellors can help with a range of issues, including relationship challenges, stress, depression, anxiety, addiction, family issues, grief and more. Services are confidential and available in multiple languages and formats.
Emergency counselling services
If you are experiencing an emergency or crisis and require immediate counselling services, call 1-866-424-0770 and select the emergency option to speak to a crisis counsellor. If you want to arrange an in-person counselling session during this call, an appointment will be guaranteed within 24 hours.
Additional support services
TELUS Health not only focuses on being a support for those in crisis and in need of short-term counselling, but it also caters to individuals who are seeking more information and for those looking to maintain their wellbeing and resilience across a range of topics, like health, life, money, work, and family.
The new EFAP platform now caters to faculty and staff who might prefer a more self-directed experience when accessing wellbeing resources. On the TELUS Health One platform, you can expect to see many more self-service options, including online total wellbeing assessments, questionnaires, and a chat function to help you find the resources you need.
For those who have experience with Morneau Shepell's online platform workhealthlife.com, this resource will continue to be available. This includes the financial and legal support, career counselling, nutrition support and wellness counselling you have come to expect, however, the TELUS Health One platform will have the latest information and resources.
EFAP access for dependents
Did you know that eligible dependents can also access the EFAP? Please check the eligibility of your dependents and ensure that you have confirmed these dependents in Workday. Please note, the intake process and availability of counselling may differ for children under the age of 16. Please contact TELUS Health for additional information.
Eligible dependents can access EFAP services by phone and online. To invite eligible dependents to access the TELUS Health One platform, please login into TELUS Health One, then follow these instructions. Also, be advised that there is a limit of five dependents who you can invite to use the online TELUS Health One platform — there are no limits for confirmed dependents to access the counselling services.
All EFAP services are confidential, within the limits of the law. This means that no one will ever know that you have used the program unless you choose to tell them. UBC is not informed of the identity of those using any of the EFAP services, including online services.
TELUS Health is required, by law, to contact law enforcement if they believe there is imminent danger to a child or to yourself, or if you are going to harm others.
